Assessment sessions seem to be frustrating because I am not too sure of the direction that I am supposed to be heading in. I understand that I am to assess my student with the various types of assessments that are available but what do you do when the child can’t even answer the simplest assessment out there. Help!

Yolie,
ReplyDeleteYou would have to use a reliable pre-literacy assessment. Based upon your QRI assessment, you are able to determine the level, and in this case it would be pre-primer. Report these findings in your diagnostic case report. We will further discuss this in our next class session. Good luck!

Dr. Rivera
I empathize with your frustration. I am sure that there are assessment tools that can work for you, it's just a matter of finding it. Have you tried the Literacy Assessment Handbook's assessment for emergent readers and writers? I am using that with my student and I am finding that it works better than the QRI-4 for her level of reading. How about the PREL letter identification and word identification lists. I am still looking for the Peabody Vocabulary Test. If I find one, I will let you know.
